Meeting of the Patriarch Bartholomew with the President of FYROM

The orthodox metropolises of the juristiction of FYROM, claim, as is well known, the regime of an autocephalous church, something that is not recognised by the Patriarchate concerned, that of Serbia.

The hope that the problem of the Orthodox Church of FYR of Macedonia can be solved through dialogue, mutual respect and with a “Christian spirit”, was expressed by the president of FYROM, Gjorgje Ivanov, after his meeting at Fanari with the Oecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

The orthodox metropolises of the juristiction of FYROM, claim, as is well known, the regime of an autocephalous church, something that is not recognised by the Patriarchate concerned, that of Serbia.

“The churches are concerned with church matters. Politicians have a limited mandate in these. I am satisfied by the procedure that is continuing and I believe that in the end the churches will arrive at a solution”, said president Ivanov. “All of us must go back, to the source of our faith and to the respect of spiritual values, so that we may better face today’s challenges”, he added.

The Patriarch Bartholomew underlined that his thoughts and prayers and his efforts are also that the problems be overcome and that orthodox unity (may exist). He congratulated mr Ivanov on his attachment to spiritual values, dialogue and his tolerance to diversity.
